What I now know about emus...

Emus are evil and to be avoided!

This Mother's Day our family took a trip to the Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville, NC. This is a drive through zoo where you can feed the animals from your car window. I am pretty sure this is illegal in most states. These are not small animals, and aparently aren't fed any other way. Upon entering the "ranch" we rolled down our windows and prepared to feed the emus that were waiting outside. We soon discovered that this experience is unsettling, messy, and after about 5 emus start stabbing their evil looking heads into your car simultaneously, it is quite frightening. I am pretty sure the emus are the most well fed animals there. They have a very sinister look about them, and a souless stare that made me feel totally panicked. They reminded me of the evil skeksis from "The Dark Crystal".

There were many other animals like llamas, different kinds of deer, goats, cows, buffalo, zebras ect. When you drive into the ranch you are told not to feed anything with horns, and not to feed the Zebras. This is hard to do as these animals have clearly been fed before. The long-horned cows were stopping traffic and trying to get inside the cars. But by far the worst part of the whole surreal experience was the large herd of emus that follow us through the entire 3+ mile park and came running every time we tried to feed any other animals. They are seriously scary and Maya screamed her head off any time they came near. On the flip side William loved it and giggled ecstatically every time we would yell "Oh EMUS!! GO GO GO". William also observed many times that the animals were VERY hungry.

We are not the only ones who had this experience, check out these Lazy 5 ranch emu attack videos.
