In response to those who fear socialism... relax we are in no danger

Recently a good friend of mine posted a link to something politcal on facebook. The link isn't really important but it's intent was to educate. She then deleted that link after another friend made a comment that our current president is leading us down a road to socialism, as if that in itself said it all. Well I spent quite a good while writing a very empassioned response only to click "comment" and have the link gone and therefore my comment goes unread. Not wanting all of this passion and typing to go to waste I quickly hit ctrl A, and ctrl C and now... for your reading pleasure I shall hit ctrl V

I only WISH this country was on the way to being socialist. I think if you ask some socialists they would beg to differ with that statement. I think the news is portrayed differently depending on what CHANNEL you are watching, not what part of the country you are in. I voted for Obama in theHOPE that we would have socialized medicine! Instead we have privatized insurance companies in power with a public MANDATE! That means that even though my insurance is 200 dollars a WEEK, now I have no choice but to pay it.That isn't even CLOSE to being socialized. If it were SOCIALIZED medicine, I would pay a tax, and NEVER have to deal with red tape, large premiums, insurance companies, HUGE doctor bills, HSA accounts, receipts, fear, anger, anxiety. My baby girl was CHOKING and I hesitated before calling 911 because I knew it was going to cost money and now I have a 700 dollar ambulance bill to add to my ever growing stack of medical bills that I have to pay ON TOP of my 200 dollars a week, AND my 4000 dollar yearly deductible because our policy doesn't cover AMBULANCE rides. And the truth is I have NO CHOICE but to continue paying this ridiculous premium because that is what my husband's employer offers, and it is a better deal that I could get with any personal insurance as both mason and I have rather glaring health problems. I am ACHING for socialized medicine because the private companies only care about profit, bottom line is money and if they can keep soaking me for it then they will, and now with are new "on-the-road-to-socialism" legislation I have no choice but to continue paying whatever they say. I can VOTE for or against a tax, but my votes do NOTHING to regulate a private company. That doesn't seem very socialist to me.

I highly encourage you to look at what has passed in legislation since the new administration, and tell me exactly what you think is driving us toward socialism, without quoting fox news. I also encourage you to talk to some people who live or have lived in the dreaded socialized countries (Canada, England, Sweden etc, etc,) And see how much they hate it and pine for private insurance companies.

So there it is, I feel so very strongly about this issue that I couldn't let it go unsaid. I hope I am not only preaching to the choir, I hope that someone out there reading this will think beyond their own lives and realize that this system is not working for everyone, and actually is not working for most of us and there are wonderful examples of systems that work for many more people than ours currently does and we can too, if we can put aside pride and fear and just accept that the "American way" could be improved upon, and we don't have all the right answers, and that we CAN learn from our neighbors.

Alright, rant over... I am spent

I wouldn't call this a rant - this is your passionate "from the heart" plea for people to think and consider a bigger picture and it is very well said! I love you and Mason so much.
This makes me very thankful for my health insurance, knowing that I am extremely blessed, and feel sad that so many do not have the same coverage and often forego basic necessary care because they can't afford what they really need for their health. It's not right.
